If you are interested in playtesting a new custom map on my server before it gets submitted for the public to download, post your interest in a new thread in this board. Also, if you are a map maker yourself, and you wish to have your map playtested, please indicate that here and you will be contacted with your approval status. If you are approved, you will also receive instructions on how to send me the files required to run the map. Please do not post map-related files as attachments on this forum. Such posts will be removed and any accompanying playtest requests will be denied.
Include either your Steam Profile link or Steam ID. Use the Status console command to find your Steam ID if you don't know what it is. If I have an event space available within one month, you will receive a reply with your approval status. Please don't delete your post if you have been approved, or else I won't be able to send you the password. Events will be posted on the Steam Group as well as the Calendar here on the forum.
If you have been approved for playtesting, then you will receive a reminder containing the server password via Steam Chat and ProBoards private message whenever the playtest event starts. Please do not give this password to anyone who has not posted here and received an approval. Please make sure you have scheduled a time to conduct the test, and communicate that with all of the people you wish to participate in the test with. Before the playtest event is started, I will invite all participating players (up to 24 including you, myself, and the map makers) to a Steam chat session and they will be given the password and IP:Port of the server. One 24-slot server will be locked down during the course of the playtest event, and will reopen whenever the playtest is over. I will include myself or another admin in as many playtests as possible for the sole purpose of preventing any kind of server or player abuse. It isn't that I don't trust you folks, but I would like to maintain a positive playtesting experience during the course of every test event.
After your playtest is complete, I encourage you to give feedback on the map or mod that you helped test. If you wish to do so, please create a thread in this board with the title format: <map or plugin name> "feedback." This will help me distinguish between playtest requests and feedback.
If you need to reschedule a playtest event for whatever reason, let me know via Steam Chat as soon as possible. I will try to be flexible in honoring your request, but please keep in mind that I will have to take down one of my public servers in order to use it for the test.
If we are testing a Sourcemod plugin, all of the players involved in testing will receive a copy of all server and Sourcemod log files generated during the test, for the purpose of debugging.
As for map makers, once your map is complete and ready to be released to the public, I can optionally add your map to my server's rotation. This is done with your permission, of course.
As far as priorities go, people I know and have worked with in real life have first priority, followed by people on my Steam Friends List, then everyone else. But don't worry. I'll try to get around to granting everyone's request. It just takes time.
If you happen to be playing on the server that is chosen to conduct the test, a message will be broadcast on the server warning of the coming test event. You have the option to disconnect before the server is locked and all connected players are kicked.
If I don't grant anyone's requests in a reasonable time, I'm not dead. Poke me or send me a PM or something, but don't spam me.
Happy mapping, testing, and playing, and thank you in advance for your contribution to the Team Fortress 2 community!
